About the Cairns Italian Festival
Ciao and welcome to the Cairns Italian Festival, one of the biggest events on the Cairns calendar. Enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of Italy, with food, wine, music and dance for all ages.
Highlights include La Festa, our big food and wine day at Fogarty Park, degustation dinners at some of Cairns’ best Italian restaurants, the Carnevale Masquerade Cocktail Party, Opera in the Tropics, the annual FNQ soccer battle and the Mareeba Salami and Sausage Festa. Our events are held in Cairns and Mareeba, and we celebrate the Italian heritage of the whole region. Let’s celebrate Italy in the Tropics!

The Cairns Italian Festival celebrates the people, stories and traditions that have helped shape Cairns and Far North Queensland. At its heart is a deep respect for the Italian migrants who left behind familiar lives, crossed oceans and built a new home here, bringing courage, knowledge, determination and a strong sense of family and community.
Their legacy lives on in the farms and businesses they established, the communities they helped build, and the traditions passed from one generation to the next. It lives in family stories, treasured recipes, music, language and the simple generosity of welcoming someone to the table.
Our festival exists to honour that legacy, keep it alive and share it with everyone.
Bringing Generations Together
We bring generations together to celebrate their roots, learn from one another and create new memories. We give younger generations opportunities to connect with their Italian heritage and invite people of every background to experience the warmth, creativity and community spirit at the heart of Italian life.
Italian Food, Wine and Tradition
Italian food and wine are a cherished part of this story. Behind every family recipe is knowledge passed down, time given and a connection to the people and places that came before us. Alongside music, dance, storytelling and shared celebrations, they help us preserve traditions by continuing to practise and share them.
A Volunteer-Led Community Festival
The Cairns Italian Festival is a not-for-profit organisation, led by an unpaid volunteer committee and brought to life by volunteers, sponsors, local businesses and community supporters. Behind every event are people giving their time, skills and energy because they believe this heritage deserves a future. Our purpose is to create lasting community value by preserving Italian heritage, strengthening connections and ensuring future generations can discover, celebrate and carry these traditions forward.
Celebrating Across Far North Queensland
From Cairns to the Tablelands and across the towns and communities of Far North Queensland, we celebrate a shared history of migration, hard work, resilience and belonging. Whether your family has Italian roots or you simply want to be part of the celebration, you are welcome here. Honouring the past, celebrating the present and carrying our traditions into the future.

Meet the faces behind the Festival
Since the inception of this event, a new Italian Family was created in our Cairns Italian Festival Committee. Italians from all regions of Italy and non-Italians who share our passion are creating beautiful new memories and friendships.
