This style of pizza was first created in the Sorrento Peninsula town of Vico Equense on Italy’s Amalfi Coast. There, pizzaiolo Luigi Dell’Amura — affectionately known as “Gigino” — developed a long, rectangular pizza in the 1930s as a clever way to serve large groups with a single, shareable base, topped with different flavours that could satisfy everyone at the table.
Traditionally, pizza by the metre is served in one long piece, often up to a metre or more, and enjoyed communally — each section featuring different toppings and combinations so everyone can taste and share. The concept was born from the Italian spirit of togetherness, hospitality, and shared meals, and has become a symbol of celebration and social dining across Italy and beyond.
On this special night at Vitalia’s, guests will enjoy metre‑long pizzas featuring a variety of flavours — from classic favourites to creative combinations — all designed to be shared. The extended format invites conversation, laughter, and exploration of tastes as everyone savours different slices along the board.
There are two ticket options: one including a curated wine pairing, carefully selected to complement the different pizza profiles, and another option without wine for those who prefer to enjoy the pizzas on their own.
Set in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Vitalia’s, this event brings the authentic Italian tradition of shared pizza and community dining to life. Pizza by the Metre Night is more than a meal — it’s a joyful celebration of food, fellowship, and flavour where friends, families, and festival goers come together to taste, toast, and make memories.
