Salami & Sausage Competition 2022

The inaugural Cairns Italian Festival saw The Mareeba International Club undergo a total Italian makeover to showcase the Mareeba TGT Salami and Sausage Competition Festa, a fun day filled day with lots of laughter, wine, and of course great food and company.

Some of Australia best artisan salami and sausage makers entered our firs Salami and Sausage competition to take out the prestigious awards on offer, while the public got the opportunity to meet the families who competed, and learn some of their secrets.

But there was more to this event than just the competition. It was also a celebration of family, friends, tradition and of course, food. This festa brought people from all different backgrounds together.

There was also be a beautiful homemade Italian lunch and dessert to savour provided by the Mareeba International Club with LIVE Italian music as entertainment, and lots of amazing prizes on offer!

The judging panel for the first Salami & Sausage Competition was made of 5 expert judges who decided which is the best homemade salami and sausage in the festa. Several awards were assigned, with our expert judging panel rating each entry out of 20 in the areas of Taste, Aroma, Density and Colour.

Our experts judges for the 2022 edition of the Salami & Sausage competition were Giovanni Palmieri, Dave Cann, Serg Battistin, Angelo Aurelio and our SPECIAL GUEST judge Joe Avati.
